Melissa is the Principal and owner of Calverley Johnston Family Lawyers.

Melissa was born and raised in Geraldton, until moving to Perth to commence university studies. Since that time, Melissa has lived and worked in both Perth and regional areas of Western Australia.

Melissa graduated from the University of Notre Dame in December 2004 and was later admitted as a legal practitioner to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in August 2006 and the High Court of Australia in July 2008.

Melissa has worked exclusively in the area of Family Law since being admitted as a legal practitioner. She is known for her authenticity and candour, ensuring that clients are provided with realistic advice from the outset.

Melissa has diverse skills in all areas of Family Law, whether clients are seeking a negotiated settlement or a robust personality to represent them in Court litigation.

Melissa has extensive knowledge and experience in dealing with financial matters, including division of property, spousal maintenance and child support. Melissa frequently deals with complex financial issues involving businesses, corporate structures and trusts, self-managed superannuation funds and inheritances/gifts.

Melissa also has a strong interest in parenting cases and is passionate about providing clients with child-focused advice, to ensure the impact of separation on children is minimised. Melissa is regularly appointed by the Court as an Independent Children’s Lawyer to represent the interests of children in litigation involving complex issues of mental health, addiction and abuse.

Melissa is one of a handful of solicitors in Western Australia who is qualified and has successfully practiced in the area of Collaborative Law.

Outside of work, Melissa enjoys getting back to nature with outdoor walks and annual family camping trips. Good food and the company of friends is also important to Melissa, who believes that a work life balance is essential to being a good lawyer.
